OUR APPROACH
We support "Local Heroes" - grassroots initiatives in East Africa aimed at empowering women and youth within their community.
We believe change happens from within. That is why we work together with self-led local initiatives that engage the entire community and are based on deep local knowledge. We support the initiatives by providing practical skills training, acquiring assets, and facilitating long-term local partnerships to accelerate a self-sustaining process.
As time went on, we noticed that our neighborhood was getting dirtier. There was more garbage, pollution, and plastic everywhere. We reached a point where we couldn't even swim in the river anymore, and that made me really sad. So, my friends and I decided to do something about it. In 2018, we started the Mtaa Safi Initiative in Kibera. Our main aim was to take care of the waste by managing and recycling it. As we worked on this, we realized it was important to change the way people in our community think about waste. That's why we also started engaging youth by offering them mentorship and trainings.
